Why Walking?

WalkingIs walking really enough exercise? Will walking actually get me fit? Can I lose weight just by walking?

The answer to all of these questions is an unqualified “Yes!” Walking is the world's oldest, simplest, least expensive exercise. The benefits include:

• Improved overall health and fitness
• Weight loss
• Stronger immune system
• Increased energy levels
• Increased muscle strength and flexibility
• Increased psychological well-being
• Improved concentration and memory
• Reduced transportation costs
• Less air and noise pollution

In essence, walking will make you healthier, thinner, stronger, happier, richer, more energetic and more eco-friendly. Doesn't sound too bad, does it?

Where Can I Walk?

Walk in the parkJust about anywhere you want to - around the block, down the road, across the field, through the woods - it's your call. Walk long, walk short, walk slow, walk fast, but walk!

The beauty of walking is that it doesn't require any special equipment and can be done just about anywhere, anytime, and by anybody. Even if you are overweight, out of shape, and haven't walked to the corner store in years, you can start right now without worry. Like anything new, it's wise to start slowly and increase your speed and distance gradually.
